Aluminum Association Launches Choose Aluminum Campaign

Digital Ads, Website and Videos Show How Aluminum Helps Meet Climate Goals, Provides Businesses with Sustainable Solutions and Supports Good-paying Jobs

Today, the Aluminum Association announced the launch of the “Choose Aluminum” campaign, which includes digital media advertising purchases, videos of workers and aluminum industry leaders, a new sustainability website on ChooseAluminum.org, and the highlight of 100% recyclable, durable and sustainable Characteristics of other materials metal. The event was carried out after the launch of the new website www.aluminum.org by the Aluminum Association last month.

Advertisements, videos and websites tell the story of how aluminum provides sustainable solutions in areas such as recycling, automobile production, building and construction, and beverage packaging. It also tracks how the North American aluminum industry has reduced its carbon footprint by more than half over the past 30 years. The Alcoa industry supports nearly 660,000 direct, indirect and derivative jobs and a total economic output value of nearly 172 billion U.S. dollars. In the past decade, the industry has invested more than $3 billion in US manufacturing.

“As we work toward a more circular and sustainable future, aluminum has to be at the forefront,” said Matt Meenan, senior director of external affairs at the Aluminum Association. “We sometimes forget about the everyday environmental benefits aluminum provides from the drinks we buy, to the buildings we live and work in, to the cars we drive. This campaign is a reminder that we have an infinitely recyclable, long-lasting, lightweight solution at our fingertips. It’s also a reminder of the tremendous strides the U.S. aluminum industry has made to invest and grow while still reducing its carbon footprint in recent decades.”

Aluminum is one of the most used recycled materials today. Aluminum beverage cans, car doors or window frames are usually directly recycled and reused. This process can happen almost infinitely. As a result, nearly 75% of aluminum production is still in use today. Aluminum’s high degree of recyclability and lightweight durability make it a key part of a more circular, low-carbon economy.

The aluminum industry is also making continuous improvements in the environmental efficiency of producing the metal. A third-party Life Cycle Assessment of North America aluminum can production done in May of this year showed that greenhouse gas emissions have dropped 40% over the last 30 years.
